Message to our fellow Jamaicans affected by Hurricane Melissa
We, at JAMLAB, our hearts heavy with grief and full of solidarity for our fellow Jamaicans in the wake of the catastrophic passage of Hurricane Melissa.
The news from our western parishes—Westmoreland, St. Elizabeth, St. James, Hanover, Trelawny, and beyond—has left us all in a state of profound sorrow. We mourn the lives that have been tragically cut short and hold in our thoughts the families who are anxiously awaiting news of those still missing.
In this dark hour, we have also seen the unshakeable strength of the Jamaican spirit. We see the first responders, the utility crews, the community volunteers, and the neighbours helping neighbours clear debris, share a meal, and offer a word of comfort. This resilience is who we are.
As a Jamaican organization, JAMLAB is committed to our community. We stand with you, our brothers and sisters, as we begin the long and difficult journey of recovery and rebuilding. We will face this together, pooling our strength, our innovation, and our unyielding hope.
Our deepest, most heartfelt condolences go out to every person affected by this terrible storm. May we find strength in each other as we work to restore our beloved island.
